Developed by the Research and Development Institute of the Argentine armed forces, the 127 mm CP-30 (28-round) multiple rocket system entered operational service in the 1980s. It is understood that a total of 30 systems were originally built under the designation of the SLAM Pampero.

Description

The 127 mm aluminium launch tube assembly can be configured in a variety of ways to suit various platforms, including the following: a 16-round (in two banks of eight 127 mm tubes) assembly on the rear bed of a modified Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG 416 (4 × 4) 1,500 kg light cross-country truck; a 36-round (in four banks of nine tubes) assembly on the rear bed of a French VLRA ACMAT (8 × 8) 7,000 kg cross-country truck; and a 28-round assembly also on the French VLRA ACMAT (8 × 8) truck chassis.

As far as it is known, all production applications have utilised the German Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG 416 (4 × 4) 1,500 kg truck chassis. Production of the Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG 416 series 4 × 4 chassis was completed in Germany many years ago.

To provide a more stable platform four hydraulically operated stabilisers are lowered. Traverse and elevation are also hydraulically operated systems. Sights are provided for direct and indirect fire.

Single-round and ripple firings up to the full salvo are possible. The 127 mm steel-bodied rocket uses a PHE-2 solid propellant filled rocket motor casing with four wraparound pop-up tail-mounted guidance fins. The warhead types available include: training, drill, HE anti-personnel, HE incendiary and anti-tank/anti-personnel submunition. Maximum rocket range is stated to be 30,000 m. The warshots have either contact or delayed action fuzing options.

It should be noted that the Specifications table relates to the chassis being the ACMAT 8 × 8 but as far as it is known this combination has not entered production or service.
