The elevation and depression of the assembly is +4 to +50°, the traverse is 95° left and 45° right. The sighting system is mounted on the left side of the launcher.

The Type 79 minelaying rocket shell carries a payload of 10 Type 69 plastic anti-tank mines. A ring stabiliser is fitted to the tail fins. Maximum range is 2,600 m. Four vehicles can lay a 600 × 350 m minefield. Firing interval between the unguided solid propellant rockets is 1.75 seconds.

Ready for launch each Type 79 minelaying rocket weighs 156 kg to which the rocket motor adds an additional 77 kg to bring the total up to 233 kg.

Muzzle velocity is quoted as 45 m/s with maximum velocity being 185 m/s. It can be used in ambient temperature conditions from -40 to +40°C.
