QinetiQ North America, in partnership with Polaris Defense offers Raider II, our Autonomous Diesel Mule. Raider II is a multi-mission, diesel powered, Raiderautonomous vehicle designed to lighten the load for the Warfighter.

The vehicle platform for the Raider II UGV is based on the new Polaris Defense 2011 Military Diesel Crew Long Box (MDCL) chassis with 4 wheel independent suspension. The vehicle is powered by a 904cc, 24HP, commercial rated Yanmar Diesel Engine. It has a 1,750lbs payload capacity (cargo and personnel) and the ability to tow 2000 lbs. With its 1400W alternator and 120V 5A inverter, it has ample power to run additional accessories and ancillary items. Also mounted on the vehicle is a vehicle mounted battery charger to accommodate charging of standard military batteries.

The vehicle has a 35 mph top speed and includes Polaris On-Demand, True All-Wheel Drive transmission. The base vehicle has a large steel rear cargo bed with adjustable cargo tie-down features as well as side rails for rucksack storage and easy access. The cargo bed also has the ability to carry two litter patients at the same time and the vehicle comes with two standard NATO litters and a medical kit. The platform can be driven as an UGV or as a manned vehicle, providing safe seating for two fully equipped Soldiers. Additional accessory features include: helicopter lifting points, 24V NATO slave start outlet, tow bars front and aft, cargo box roll bar extension. The 9-gallon fuel tank permits operations up to 300 miles on a single tank of diesel fuel.

The Raider II can be controlled in one of three modes. In manned mode a Soldier can drive and maneuver the vehicle at speeds up to 35mph. In Tele-op mode the Raider II is operated with the man portable Tactical Robotic Controller to a distance of over 1km. In Autonomous mode the Raider II can be maneuvered utilizing a number of different methods including: follow me, waypoint following and return to origin. This autonomous behavior can be utilized to complete a multitude of military missions including: resupply, MEDEVAC and reconnaissance.
