Oerlikon Fieldranger 20

Manufacturer: Rheinmetall Defence
Product type: Turrets
Name: Remote controlled weapon station

Oerlikon Fieldranger 20 is a remote controlled weapon station. For the first time it presented at IDEX 2017 exibition.

Fieldranger is the member of the new family of weapon stations. These family include also stabilized, fully digital Amarok for light and medium machine guns, as well as Qimek for heavy machine guns.

Oerlikon Fieldranger 20 fills the gap between heavy machine guns and medium-caliber weapons used in modern infantry fighting vehicles.

The basis of the weapon station is an Oerlikon KAE automatic gun caliber 20 mm. It has a maximum rate of fire of 1000 rounds per minute, but in the fast single-shot mode it can have a programmable rate of fire from 100 to 300 rounds per minute. Ammunition is fed with ribbons.

Currently, a variety of ammunition of various types is available for this gun, including AP-T (armor-piercing), SAPPIE-T (half-armor-piercing full-caliber, with incendive effect) and Hei-T (high-explosive). The long range and stable ballistic performance characterize the ammunition of 20x128 mm, whose flat path provides increased accuracy and efficiency. As a result, Oerlikon Fieldranger 20 can effectively hit lightly armored vehicles, field fortifications and solve problems in a densely built-up area at distances up to 2000 meters - even when the fire is in motion. For training, TP-T ammunition is available.

OVA-150L Electro-optical Sensor Unit manufactured by Rheinmetall Defense Electronics allows the system to work day and night.

The weapon station also uses the ROSY smoke/aerosol system, made by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition.

It is controlled from the control unit, which is located in the armored combat compartment.

Oerlikon Fieldranger 20, therefore, is well suited for the role of the main armament for armored combat and reconnaissance vehicles, as well as for unmanned platforms.
