RUAG Defence has developed a new 120mm Mortar System named COBRA. The COBRA is a high-tech product that sets new standards for indirect fire systems. A key factor is the use of an electric drive to ensure both the accuracy and the speed of the system. The COBRA can be easily integrated into any tracked or wheeled vehicle and is designed so users can be quickly trained to a high standard of operation.

Indirect fire systems provide the best balance of firepower and flexible deployment. To create the next level of indirect fire systems RUAG Defence took inspiration from the animal kingdom. The marriage of fighting potency and speed of movement is nowhere better than in the world of the snakes – and the noblest of all the cobra.

The inherent characteristics of this animal are those which modern forces seek to mimic.

The instinctiveness of the cobra of where and when to strike is matched by the intuitive operation of the RUAG COBRA Mortar System, helping the crew become one with their system. The speed with which the snake can strike is echoed in the rapid deployment time of the mortar system and its ability to scoot quickly away to cover after firing, as the snake slithers back to its hiding place.
