Manufacturer: KURGANMASHZAVOD OJSC
Product type: Armoured Vehicles
Name: Light tank

The "Sprut-SD" Self-Propelled Anti-Tank Gun is designed to engage hostile armour, provide anti-tank fire support to assault and infantry units, destroy strongholds and fortifications, as well as to perform reconnaissance and combat security missions.

Fire Power

The "Sprut-SD" is armed with a 125mm stabilised smoothbore cannon (similar to cannons of the T-80U, T-90S MBTs, as regards ballistics and ammunition), a guided missile system and a coaxial 7.62mm machine-gun.

The organic anti-tank ammunition provides effective engagement of any modern tank, while blast-fragmentation projectiles are fired against pillboxes and manpower scattered over a large area.

An automatic ammunition loader ensures high rate of fire of 6 to 8 rounds per minute with both conventional projectiles and rounds with guided missiles.

Laser-guided missiles can be launched against targets positioned at a distance from 100 up to 5,000 meters. Due to this, "Sprut-SD" has an indisputable combat advantage over hostile tanks in long-distance duels. Moreover, the missiles can be effectively employed against low-flying helicopters.

Survivability

To ensure combat survivability, "Sprut-SD" fitted with a highly effective NBC collective protection, smoke-screen laying, and automatic fire-extinguishing systems.

It is further improved due to the low silhouette and camouflage painting, as well as high agility on the battlefield and variable clearance. All these impede observation of the vehicle by reconnaissance and sighting means.

Mobility

"Sprut-SD" can be air-lifted to a combat zone, parachuted with the crew on board the vehicle, and put into action shortly after its landing.

The vehicle`s power plant is a Diesel engine rated at 510 horsepower.

To provide high-speed running on a highway without damaging pavement, removable asphalt-going rubber pads can be mounted on the tracks. To negotiate deep snow, swampy and loose sand terrain, special wide tracks can be put on.

"Sprut-SD" can negotiate without preparation water obstacles afloat at Sea States up to 3. While afloat, it is capable of delivering gun/missile fire within a sector of ± 35 degrees. Upon accomplishing combat mission, the vehicle can climb on board amphibious assault ship from water, all by itself, using its own engine power.

Maintainability

"Sprut-SD" is simple to operate. Field repairs are generally carried out by the crew employing an individual set of spare parts and tools, without any additional repair facilities.

Operational Capabilities

The "Sprut-SD" Self-Propelled Anti-Tank Gun outperforms all known counterparts by a well-balanced synergy of firepower, mobility and combat survivability. Featuring capabilities of "light tank", it can carry out combat missions in various climate zones, in mountainous and harsh terrain, coastal areas and shallow waters, by day and night, effectively engaging hostile armour, fortifications and manpower on the move, at station, and afloat.

Communications

The radio communication means comprise R-173 UHF transceiver and R-173P UHF receiver ensuring simultaneous operation in two radio nets. The intercom set is used for onboard communication between crew members.
