This is also an applique passive armour system with the latest version being claimed to offer, weight for weight, twice the performance of both aluminium and steel.

ROMOR-C is a passive applique sandwich armour that has been designed primarily to improve the battlefield survivability of lightweight armoured vehicles and some of the more vulnerable parts of MBTs, for example the hull sides and rear.

It is believed that the ROMOR-C range of armours uses high-performance ceramic and composite materials. In addition to being used as an add-on armour it can also be incorporated into vehicles at the design stage.

Various types of ROMOR-C have been developed and tested to provide protection from 5.56 mm small arms fire up to 30 mm Armour-Piercing Discarding Sabot (APDS) ammunition attack.

The type of ROMOR-C used in any application is tailored to match the particular threat and host vehicle combination.

Royal Ordnance has completed designs of ROMOR-C that can be fitted to several armoured vehicles, tracked and wheeled, including the widely deployed United Defense LP M113 series full tracked armoured personnel carrier.

The ROMOR-C packages are designed to fit specific .vehicles and can be fitted or removed without the use of special tools. As with ROMOR-A, once a panel has been damaged it can be quickly replaced.

A typical 4 x 4 vehicle has anall-welded steel armour hull that provides protection from 7.62 mm ball attack. With a ROMOR-C protection, package weighing less than 800 kg, protection level is increased to cover 12.7 mm Armour-Piercing (AP).

Royal Ordnance has also developed a lightweight 'stick-on' version of ROMOR-C which can be quickly fitted to a vehicle. Trials have shown that these tiles stay on the vehicle even when it is hit.

Each tile measures 100x100mm and weighs 28 kg/m and provides protection against penetration from 7.62 mm AP small arms fire.
