Description

The KHRIZANTEMA-S (Chrysanthemum) is a code-name of the new generation self-propelled multi-purpose guided missile system designed by KBM Engineering Design Bureau, Russia. This is a unique versatile weapon system intended to engage with high rate of fire various targets such as modern/prospective main battle tanks equipped with ERA and armoured combat vehicles, fortified structures, pill-boxes, small vessels, as well as slow/low-flying aircraft and helicopters, at a range of up to 6000 meters at any time of day or night, under any weather conditions, and in any combat environment.

The system comprises a combat vehicle with guidance equipment and ready-to-fire guided missiles armed with various types of warheads, stationary and mobile test equipment, training aids. Its crew consists of two men: commander/gunner and driver, both seated in front of the vehicle under full armour protection.

Missile Armament

The system is armed with supersonic guided missiles that can carry either tandem shaped-charge or high explosive warheads. Ammunition section contains 15 ready-to-fire missiles in sealed expendable containers. The two-round launcher is served by an autoloading system. Once the two missiles have been launched, the launcher arm is retracted into the hull and loaded automatically with required missile warheads.

Fire Control System

The system's unique feature is its two modes of guidance. In the primary mode both the priority target is tracked and the missile guided automatically by a millimetre-waveband radar by day and night under any battlefield conditions (dense smokes, dust, fires, fog, rain, snow, etc.), without the gunner having to obtain visual contact with the target. In the second mode which is semi-automatic laser beam riding, the sight must be kept on the target until the missile strikes home. The fire control system allows two targets to be engaged simultaneously, using different modes of guidance.

Countermeasures Resistance

The system demonstrates robust performance against passive and active countermeasures. Dust, dense smoke and numerous fires at the battlefield do not affect the guidance system either.

Mobility and Survivability

The KHRIZANTEMA Missile System is mounted on the proven BMP-3 IFV chassis. The vehicle retains the full amphibious capability of the standard BMP-3. Its standard equipment includes a NBC system and a front-mounted dozer blade.

Radar detection of targets and their engagement with the supersonic missiles fired at a high rate at long range allow to eliminate threats at an early stage enhancing overall survivability of the KHRIZANTEMA System.

The system can also be mounted on any other platform.
