Development

The PCO SSC-1 OBRA self-covering and laser warning system has been designed for installation on T-series MBTs, especially the T-72, but can easily be adopted for installation on other MBTs and armoured vehicles as well as static areas.

Description

The SSC-1 OBRA self-covering and laser warning system consists of the following main components: four detection heads, integrated signalling control and display units, distribution box and, as an option, smoke grenade launcher units.

The system covers all currently used lasers from nd:YAG to CO2, although older ruby lasers can also be detected. The main functions of the system can be summarised as follows:

a) optical and acoustic signalling of the detection of tank irradiation by impulse range-finder or laser illuminator

b) destination of direction from which there was an irradiation and defined type of laser radiation device

c) selecting and preparing the smoke grenade launcher and firing grenades from that launcher.

The system can operate in the following modes:

a) automatic, in which the system indicates the direction of irradiation, determines the launch device and automatically fires the smoke screen in the direction of detected laser radiation.

b) semi-automatic mode indicates the direction of irradiation, determines the launch device and the commander manually fires the smoke screen

c) manual, in which the system indicates the direction of irradiation and the commander selects the launcher and fires the smoke screen.

Status
