The PYRKAL 76 mm multispectral smoke grenade NM186 is manufactured under licence and in cooperation with the Norwegian Nordic Ammunition Company.

This grenade is compatible with the 76 mm PYRKAL grenade launchers covered in the previous entry, as well as the German Krauss-Maffei Wegmann 76 mm grenade launchers covered earlier in this section.

The 76 mm NM186 grenade creates an effective smoke screen in less than 2.5 seconds which gives coverage in the visual and Infra-Red (IR) spectrum.

The three main components of the 76 mm NM186 are, from top to bottom, the instantaneous smoke unit, smoke generator and the launcher unit.

The instantaneous smoke unit has a 2 second delay and creates a smoke screen 30 metres from the vehicle. The smoke generator burns for about 110 seconds and provides IR coverage for about 30 seconds with no pillaring effect. The smoke covers an area of 80 metres in length and 10 metres in height which lasts for about 120 seconds.
