Located in STEYR city , a centre for diesel engines, transmissions and vehicles STEYR MOTORS became a specialist for light weight , high speed diesel engines.

The company returned recently into the new facility for development and production with most modern dynamic test benches, assembly lines, new paint shop and precision measurement equipment for quality assurance. The engines of STEYR MOTORS are highly respected for the Monoblock solution, a light weight design with a unique cooling and stress capability made from a special alloy grey cast. All models include a sound absorption system, high pressure unit injectors with 2 stage injection, electronic engine management, internal diagnostic and SAE J1939 – electronic CAN – Bus.

The Monoblock engines include marine diesels from 63 – 191 kW ( 85 – 260 HP) and several models of high power 6 - Cylinder engines for special applications and military vehicles. The engines are certified according SOLAS, US Coast Guard, RINA and JCI. Vehicle engines received the NATO approval.

Due to the unique power – to – weight – ratio as well as the reliability of the Monoblock design, manufacturers of high speed boats, fast rescue boats and special vehicles have been convinced to choose for the STEYR engines.

One of the highlights of recent applications is FB Design’s FB 33-fast petrol boats, 10,4 m long, 2,67m width , weighting 3,5 tons – equipped with 2 x STEYR marine diesels MO266K43 – 260HP each – connected to the revolutionary TRIMAX – Ring Drive ZF 90 nts .

The light weight engines ( 310 kg each ) matched perfectly with the unrivalled handling of hull & drive, which performs to very satisfying 52 knots.

Another very successful application is the re-powering of ALVIS Scorpion tanks by the Irish engineering company IED. Tested according NATO - standards, in hot climate chamber etc. The whole package replaces very professional the earlier JAGUAR – gasoline engine, offers more power, much better performance and dynamic behaviour, much more safety and reliability in critical environment and abused conditions.
